And they’re (almost) off: Vic Hayter Memorial Trot set to go on Sunday

The 9th annual Vic Hayter Memorial Trot is set to go this Sunday.

Named after the late Stratford businessman, who had a huge love for animals, the trot is a fundraiser for Stratford Perth Humane Society.

Greg Hayter tells MyStratfordNow the trot acts as a celebration of his father’s life, his legacy and his time at the Clinton Raceway.

Greg said his father had a fierce work ethic, but Sundays were reserved for some downtime.

“That was almost like a religion to him, he would go home and pick up my mom and head off to Clinton Raceway, they would sit by the finish line and just watch horses.”

Vic was born and raised in Stratford, moved away for about 20 years but later returned to the area, running hotels and an apartment business, amongst other ventures.

Greg worked with his father, starting at the age of 18.

Greg says his father adored animals.

“When he passed away it was a natural thing to have this event in his honour.”

Sunday will feature the Little Tracks Petting Zoo and a beef on a bun dinner, in addition to the racing.

“Enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the horses and just have a nice afternoon,” said Greg.
