UTRCA spraying herbicide to control phragmites

A Health Canada-approved herbicide is being sprayed this week to control phragmites in various locations in Stratford.

Upper Thames River Conservation Authority says it is spraying to protest unique ecosystems around stormwater management ponds, among other places.

The herbicide will be carefully applied by licensed applicators from the conservation authority, who follow best management practices.

According to the provincial government, invasive phragmites are an invasive plant causing damage to Ontario’s biodiversity, wetlands and beaches. They are a perennial grass that have damaged ecosystems in Ontario for decades

Look out for signs in areas where the spraying will be taking place.
