Learn about city, meet the community, at newcomer breakfast and bus tour

There is no better way to meet new people than breaking bread at the breakfast table.

Or a pita, perhaps, if that’s your cup of tea.

A newcomers breakfast and bus tour is being offered on Saturday (Oct. 5), providing a chance for Stratford’s newcomers to sit down for a meal and then learn more about the services around the city that can help them in their day-to-day lives.

Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma said it’s a perfect combination, a casual breakfast with Canadian and international offerings, along with a more formal educational tour.

All while sharing culture.

“I got goose bumps thinking about the day,” he told MyStratfordNow.

Ritsma said as mayor he is actively aware of increasing diversity in the city.

The mayor said the community must be welcoming and provide at least a piece of life back home so newcomers stick around, otherwise, they will likely to head to bigger cities.

That can include a lot of things, but mostly an open mind and heart.

The Multicultural Association of Perth Huron also helped organize the event.

The breakfast is 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the refurbished upstairs community hall (former bingo hall) at the Agriplex.

An hour-long tour will follow, highlighting resources and services around Stratford.

The last leg is at Upper Queen’s Park, with entertainment and a chance to meet and greet local residents from different cultures.

Everyone is welcome, the mayor said, “to celebrate those new cultures that are coming to Stratford.”

More information about the breakfast and bus tour is available on the City of Stratford website.
