The Courthouse Campus Project is well underway and is slated to resume occupancy in the next couple of months.
At its meeting today, Perth County Council received a project update report from John McClelland, Executive Director of Public Works. The report summarized the project status for the 5 Huron Reno and Connecting Link Addition and explained that they are “down to finishing stages of this project.”
The renovation was awarded to Dakon Construction Ltd. in May of 2023 for just over $5 million.
Demolition and construction began in July of last year.
There have been numerous cost additions to the project, including a new generator for $250K and two increases in contingency allowance, totalling $225K. The project is now almost half a million over budget.
At the last project update report, staff indicated the discovery of an old oil tank and began the work to remove and remediate it. They expect the total cost of the oil tank disposal will be approximately $100K from contingency funds.
The county has taken out a $5.4 million construction loan for the project and depending on costs above the initial loan amount, Perth County may look to provincial funding options.
They are on schedule to complete the renovation in November and occupancy will resume shortly after.
