Fire Prevention Week serves as a reminder that fire safety is an important conversation to be had often.
The awareness week started Sunday and runs to this coming Sunday.
The theme surrounding the week is the idea of making smoke alarms work for you.
Stratford Fire Department reminds everyone to install smoke alarms on every storey of their home, and outside each separate sleeping area.
You should replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year, and whenever the low-battery warning chirps.
Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pushing the test button and replace all smoke alarms when they are 10-years-old, or if they stop responding when tested.
West Perth Fire Station in Mitchell is hosting an educational evening Tuesday with fire safety demonstration, and a smoke alarm pledge.
Shakespeare Fire Station will host an open house Wednesday, with another scheduled for the Sebringville station on Thursday. Events run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and there will be activities for all ages to enjoy as well as a hot dog barbecue.
