The medicine unit at Stratford General Hospital is closed after the Huron Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) declared a COVID-19 outbreak.
The alliance released a media alert at noon on Wednesday, noting they are working with Huron Perth Public Health to manage the outbreak.
Outbreak status refers to two or more confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among patients that could have possibly been acquired in the hospital.
Patients, family/caregivers and team members affected are being notified and testing of patients is taking place, the HPHA said.
Family and caregiver presence at the medical unit has been modified.
Patients can only have one family caregiver/visitor per day with no in-and-out privileges.
Family/caregivers will be required to wear personal protective equipment including mask, eye protection, gown and gloves.
Erica Jensen, Manager Quality, Patient Safety and Infection Control, said as cold and flu season begins, it’s important to remember COVID-19 is still circulating.
Steps to stay healthy include washing hands, coughing or sneezing into your elbow, and staying home if you feel unwell. You should also avoid hospitals if you feel sick.
