With fresh ideas and new boots, local candidate hits the campaign trail

Jason Davis isn’t afraid to get his boots dirty.

Literally.

The local diesel technician purchased another pair of work boots for campaigning, as his were “too dirty” for door knocking.

Ontario’s New Democrats candidate in Perth-Wellington said he works two full-time jobs “because we live in a time where 50-60 hours a week isn’t enough to pay the bills”.

Davis said housing, and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, including shelter and food, need to be addressed.

“Until those two things are dealt with, we are sure every person in this region has access to a safe place to live and food on their table, we can’t really start talking about anything else.”

Davis prioritizes healthcare, specifically a walk-in clinic for the region, and explains that $12.3 billion was underfunded to healthcare in 2024, causing longer wait times at clinics and hospitals, while money is allocated to the Highway 413 project.

“We don’t need that highway while people are dying without having access to the healthcare they need to survive. Right? We need to get our priorities straight here.”

Davis is looking ahead to the future and wants to make a difference.

“I understand what it’s like to struggle to put food on the table, I understand what’s it like to just look at the price of housing and think ‘wow there’s no way I’m going to be able to enter this market the way it is’, I understand those issues.”

Election day in Ontario is Feb. 27.
