Five OPP cruisers hit from behind after drivers ignored road closures

Another winter wallop hammered Perth and Huron Counties as the calendar flipped to March over the weekend.

Saturday afternoon brought blowing snow and whiteout conditions that led to road closures.

Police had urged all drivers to stay off the roads while officers responded to multiple crashes and vehicles in ditches.

Sgt. Ed Sancho with West Region OPP headquarters posted on social media that five police cruisers were rear ended after motorists went around road closed signs.

Bitterly cold temperatures and snow squalls contributed to a difficult day.

Police remind motorists that when you drive on closed roads, you put first responders, including police, fire, EMS, and tow truck drivers in danger, and insurance will likely not cover costs for damages to vehicles and private property.

No serious injuries were reported from any of the collisions.
