‘Education is paramount’: Learn more about the local federal candidates at upcoming debate

It’s a chance to see how the local federal candidates represent themselves and their party.

The Stratford and District Chamber of Commerce is hosting a federal election debate for the Perth-Wellington riding this Tuesday (April 15) at the Rotary Complex.

All four of the MP hopefuls will be attending the debate including David Mackey (Liberal), John Nater (Conservative), Kevin Kruchkywich (NDP) and Wayne Baker (PPC).

General Manager of the Stratford and District Chamber of Commerce, Aaron Martin, explained that the event is a chance to learn more about the politicians and their platforms.

“This public forum is, I think, really important for people to see what is going on and understand who they are putting their vote to, so it’s not just ‘I’m voting for this person because they’re this colour’.”

The debate will focus on economic and workforce issues that impact the region, exploring topics such as small business support, job creation, infrastructure and more.

“I think education is paramount when it comes down to it. What a great way to see that is when you’re in the same room with the actual candidates there,” said Martin.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the debate begins at 7 p.m.

Pre-registration is required for the event.

Get your free ticket by visiting the Stratford and District Chamber of Commerce’s website.

It will also be livestreamed on Wightman’s Youtube Channel.
