Like riding a bike: Learn about road safety, practice riding skills

It’s a chance to sharpen your bicycling skills, and perhaps purchase a new bike – all on the same day.

Optimist Club of Stratford are bringing back their Bike Day and it coincides with Stratford Police Services annual bike sale, on Saturday at Avondale United Church.

Const. Darren Fischer said it’s an educational-themed day.

“This is where kids up to the age of 12 have an opportunity to come and practice their bike riding skills and learn some rules of the road,” Fischer told MyStratfordNow.

A course will be set-up and police officers, radar guns in tow, will measure how fast kids can go on their bikes.

In conjunction with that, bikes that could not be returned to their owners will be for sale, with proceeds going back to the Optimist Club.

The Optimists sponsor the local Bike 529 registration program.

The bike sale will start at 9 a.m. Events run until noon.
