OPP make an arrest after 45,000 chicks stolen

A Huron OPP investigation into the theft of 45,000 chicks has resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old man from South Huron being charged with fraud over $5,000 and public mischief.

The chicks were only 15 days old when it is alleged they were stolen from a farm in South Huron, sometime overnight April 19/20.

Total loss was valued at more than $139,000.

Police allege the complainant in the “theft” is the farmer and the person charged and they have allege that they falsely reported the theft and caused police to enter into an investigation that was not true.

The whereabouts of the chicks is still unknown, but police believe they were disposed of.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers.
