Market Square Music Series returns May 23

The popular Market Square Music series returns this spring.

Free concerts take place Friday nights starting May 23, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Juno-nominated singer/songwriter Dayna Manning produces the community-focused series, which ‘celebrates the depth and diversity of the region’s musical talent.’

Admission is free, and guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

In the event of rain, performances will move to the following Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Details of the lineup provided by the City of Stratford are below:

May 23 – Nora Stephens & Aviva Goad

Stratford’s own 15-year-old singer-songwriters Nora Joy and Aviva Goad open the series with fresh, original music.

Aviva, a longtime member of Dayna Manning’s Folk Army, has also performed with the Stratford Festival and the National Ballet of Canada.

Nora, praised for her authentic lyrics and melodies, was a 2024 Summerfolk Youth Discoveries standout and has shared the stage with Ron Sexsmith and Slow Leaves.

May 30 – Fiker

A singer/songwriter and musician, Fiker creates music rooted in deep emotion and lived experience. Influenced by artists like Leith Ross, Alanis Morissette, and Julien Baker, their sound blends raw vulnerability with indie folk soul.

June 6 – Pete & Cait from The Bookends

Celtic duo Cait & Pete Watson—also known as half of The Bookends—bring an uplifting mix of Irish whistle and acoustic guitar. With performances alongside Loreena McKennitt and the Stratford Symphony Orchestra, their music brings tradition and heart to every show.

June 13 – Lina Cao

An internationally acclaimed guzheng musician, Lina Cao blends tradition with innovation. Lina has performed across Asia, Europe, and North America, and regularly collaborates with major Canadian orchestras and opera companies.

June 20 – Dawn Redskye

Giizhik Kwe (Dawn Redskye), an Anishinaabe/Irish artist based at Deshkan Ziibi, uses her soulful voice and original songs to speak to Indigenous experiences and social justice. A cherished figure in London’s indie music scene.

June 27 – Amanda & James

Canadian country duo Amanda Kind and James Downham deliver powerhouse vocals, rich harmonies, and heartfelt storytelling. With chart-topping singles and a devoted following, their musical partnership promises a show full of energy, warmth, and connection.
