It’s a A Summertime Poetry Soirée.
Stratford Perth Museum is the venue on Saturday for a celebration of the spoken word.
Stratford’s Poet Laureate, David Stones, said the soirée, beginningt at 1 p.m., will feature some accomplished poets from across the province and as far away as Australia, but also some local poets who will find a supportive setting.
“I think it’s a real feather in the cap that Stratford and area can attract this kind of poetic talent.”
Stones, the city’s first ever Poet Laureate, helps shine a spotlight and draw attention to special events, civic and not-for-profit events, stakeholder groups, and helps marginalized groups get their voices heard.
He’s working on building a county-wide poetry contest, with a call for submissions later in the summer.
“It will be the first ever anthology that will present the voices of the county, and it will result in a beautiful awards ceremony at the library with a red carpet (next April).”
Stones has attended a dozen events in his first three months as Poet Laureate.
He will perform with violinist Leo Stock at Stratford Public Library’s Poetry After Hours special on June 13, with a 35-minute performance of original poetry.
