Local Community Food Centre hosting urban farm tour, BBQ

It’s a ‘little piece of heaven’ in Stratford that more people need to know about.

A farm to table BBQ, organized by the Local Community Food Centre, will also present a chance to tour the Oak Street Farm behind Dufferin Arena on July 6.

Julie Docker Johnson with the Local said the urban farm is what community is all about.

“You can see the farm and you can see the different processes that are used their to grow incredible greens and amazing vegetables that we use at the Local and are available at the Local.”

Run by volunteers, the farm has 2.5 acres of growing space.

The event will feature games for kids in addition to the educational tour. There will be a spot to plant a seed, so you can watch the garden grow together for the summer.

A bus will leave the Local at 11 a.m. and take guests to the Oak Street Farm, return them back to the Local for a BBQ at noon, and then back to the farm again afterwards.
