Ritsma will run again for Stratford mayor in 2026

Stratford mayor Martin Ritsma will run again next year in the municipal election.

Ritsma said he is “all in, for sure”, during an on air interview Wednesday morning with CJCS morning host Jamie Cottle.

Ritsma was elected after a three person race in 2022, with 4,350 votes. He defeated architect Robert Ritz by 345 votes. Kathy Vassilakos, a former city councillor, finished third, receiving 3,166 votes.

Ritsma said that the election is fast approaching and praised the work of the City of Stratford’s clerk office, who will shoulder the work in preparation of the municipal election and ensure an effective election takes place.

City council made some key decisions at Monday’s meeting, the mayor noted, that will give direction to the clerk and shape future public meetings.

Council has decided to keep the current number of election officials intact, at 10 councillors plus the mayor, instead of dropping to nine, a consideration.

Council will also continue to elect a deputy mayor for two-year terms.

Internet and telephone voting will also continue in 2026.
