Cooper Site building to be partially demolished

A portion of the Cooper Site building will be demolished.  After a long, and sometimes contentious, debate at Tuesday’s meeting council passed a slightly amended proposal by Mayor Dan Mathieson.

The mayor’s original plan involved demolishing the fire ravaged portion of the building while leaving the west wall and date stone standing.  Instead the damaged portion of the building will still be taken down, but the west wall will also be stripped to its steel skeleton.

The date stone will be preserved for later use in some kind of commemoration piece.  Loose materials and the white aluminum cladding will be taken off as well.
