Big Brothers Big Sisters of Stratford closing down

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Stratford is shutting down.  Executive Director Altiera Essensa made that announcement at a meeting Monday night.

She says it comes down to a lack of funding:

Essensa tells us just how significant the decline in funding has been:

She believes the closure will leave a big hole in our community:

Essensa adds even though it’s come to this, people have to remember the good times:

Big Brothers Big Sisters will stay open until November 30th at the latest.

Essensa says the organization wants to make sure the closure is done “the proper way” and not in a “here today, gone tomorrow” manner.  The organization will run their summer programs as planned and will start closing their Big Brother and Big Sister matches in September.
