A couple of local organizations are getting some provincial funding. The money is aimed at supporting housing projects for adults with developmental disabilities.
Community Living St. Marys will get up to $84,900 for their Neighbourly Homes program. It uses a “supportive neighbour” concept. The neighbour monitors and helps a disabled person which allows that person to live in their own home as independently as possible.
Meanwhile in North Perth Habitat for Humanity’s Heartland project will get up to $60,000. They’ll be building an affordable housing option for two adults with developmental disabilities with low incomes.
Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece calls the funding “encouraging” as he says he often hears from families with children and adults with developmental disabilities who cannot access the services they need because of inadequate provincial support.
Although he did take exception to the way the government announced the funding. An MPP from Cambridge sent out the announcement bypassing Pettapiece.
He says “the Liberals are again playing politics with important funding announcements affecting our community.”
