Gee, Edith

A devoted Blue Jays fan has hit her last home run and has left the ball park

Edith Doreen Gee, age 97, of River Gardens Retirement Residence (Stratford) and formerly of 155 Glastonbury Crescent in Stratford passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016.  Born in Stratford daughter of the late Herbert and Elsie (Ireland) Glazier. Proud and loving mother of Robert (Vicky), and mother-in-law of Janet. Adored Grandmother of Robb (Lisa), Chris (Julie), Jennifer (John), Kathy (Eric) and Karolyn Gee.  Loving great-grandmother to Amelia, Grayson, Katie, Carson, Alyssa, Emmersyn, James and Lauren. Doreen will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Jean Glazier and nieces Debbie and Linda and nephew Randy.   While living a full, happy and event filled life, Doreen was no stranger to loss and grief. Her devoted husband Deane passed away in 1984. Her youngest son Larry in 2007, her two sisters Jean and Wilma, just days apart in 2001 and her brother Gordon in 2015. Doreen was a lifelong resident of Stratford. She loved to bowl, garden and bake and loved reading while her eyesight was good, and of course a Casino trip or two and a good old game of euchre! Doreen and Deane spent many happy years at their trailer in Bayfield prior to Deane’s passing. Doreen worked at Betty Knit and Prestonia, and was an avid Blue Jays fan. She took great pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren, taking a keen interest in their many accomplishments and daily activities. She was often seen sitting on her front porch in her Blue Jays chair, amongst her pretty flowers on a warm summer evening chatting with “passersby’s’’. Many thanks to her neighbours and special friend Phyllis, who all helped to make it possible for her to stay in her home as long as possible. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at River Gardens who loved and cared for Doreen as a friend and not just a client. Also thanks to the staff of CCAC and VON who provided such excellent care to Doreen. She enjoyed meeting and talking with other residents during her stay in River Gardens. Family and friends may call at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Friday, August 12, 2016  from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Interment to follow in Avondale Cemetery (Stratford). Reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army through the funeral home. 519.271.7411 www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
