Kiwanis Music Festival prepares for Monday

Our city’s longest running festival is rolling again for another season.

The Kiwanis Festival began Monday night and will take over stages right across the city in the weeks to come.

It opened with a benefit concert to honour Brian Emery at Knox Church and featured music performances from Chillina Kennedy.

However, the official opening will take place this coming Monday.

Executive Director Janis Auster says this is their traditional festival kick-off.

After that, 5000 competitors will take to stages throughout Stratford to compete.

Auster says the festival’s contestants span a huge age range.

Competitions will end around April 25th.

The grand finale on May 5th will feature the winners of the various categories.

That will take place at Northwestern Secondary School.

Auster says the festival has really evolved since it first started in 1927.
