68% of area employers rate availability of quality workers as fair to poor

Finding good help continues to be one of the biggest problems for area employers.

The Four County Labour Market Planning Board has released the final results of the 2016 EmployerOne Survey. It says that 68% of employers in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula felt the availability of quality workers was fair to poor.

A quarter of employers spent more than a year trying to find someone for a “hard-to-fill” position. The big three reasons employers gave for having a hard-to-fill position is lack of applicants, lack of motivation and attitude and lack of qualifications.

A total of 461 businesses hired 5,416 people in 2016. Results from the survey also say that 402 businesses in the area plan to hire people this year, making for more than 4,400 new jobs.
