Health Unit Talking Changes from Province

The Perth District Health Unit is shedding more light on healthcare changes from the province and how they could have an impact on a local level.

Doctor Miriam Klassen says one of the biggest possible changes could be the 36 health units across Ontario condensed down to 14.

She says that could be a good thing for smaller health units as they’ll have access to more staff and greater resources over a larger area.

The province’s plans are still the very early stages of development and nothing is set in stone yet.

Klassen says whatever changes do come will likely not change services such as immunization clinics or local events.

Even though there is some uncertainty, Klassen says the Perth and Huron health units are moving ahead with plans to amalgamate.
