Century for Women event taking place in Stratford

Stratford is marking a Century for Women.

Thursday is the centennial anniversary of women in Canada achieving the right to vote federally back on May 24th 1918 and a special event is being held in Market Square.

According to a press release, the event will begin at 1:45 p.m. and will include speakers, special guests, a rally and a march.

A bell will ring at 2 p.m. sharp to remember the exact hour women achieved voting rights 100 years ago.

Speakers will include author and historian Dr. Jean Hewitt, Stratford Festival Executive Director Anita Gaffney, Optimism Place Executive Director Jasmine Clark and former Stratford Mayor and Ontario NDP Minister of Culture and Communications Karen Haslam.
