Canada Day to be a sizzler across southern Ontario

The Canada Day weekend is going to be a scorcher here in our area.

Environment Canada still has a special weather statement in placeĀ for the region, warning of an “extreme heat wave” due to hot and humid air rolling up from the Gulf of Mexico, the agency says the region can

expect highs in the low to mid 30’s beginning Friday, with humidex values likely to reach the mid 40s.

The Perth District Health Unit has also issued an extended Extreme Heat Warning for the area.

Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the warmest day over the long weekend looks like it will be Saturday.

“If we get to 34 that would be in record territory for that date in history for the area, the current record is 33.9 set back in 1964.”

The hot weather is expected to stick around until the middle of next week.
