PDHU warns about sunburns and West Nile Virus

We’re into West Nile Virus and beach season in the area.

The Perth District Health Unit is asking for your help to protect kids this summer.

Make sure you clean up standing water around your home and that your kids are protected if they’re going to be hiking through the woods.

Dr. Miriam Klassen with the PDHU says you should make sure your kids use insect repellant with Deet to protect against mosquito bites.

Proper clothing will also help.

Dr. Klassen says sunburns can happen very quickly in the summer months so cover up.

Dr. Klassen says sunblock is important but it doesn’t last all day and it must be used correctly.

Dr. Klassen says you should use sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 to protect from sunburns.
