Open houses being held in Stratford ahead of recreational cannabis vote

It’s a chance to have your say on the future of recreational cannabis stores in Stratford.

Two open houses are being held on Monday at Stratford City Hall where input will be collected on allowing recreational cannabis stores in the city.

Stratford City Council is set to vote on the issue at their meeting on January 14th ahead of the deadline to opt-out of having the stores which is set for January 22nd.

Stratford Chief Administrative Officer Rob Horne says they are still learning a lot about the regulations around the legalization of cannabis.

“We’re certainly living in a bit of an evolution here in terms of provincial regulations so we now know that there will be 25 stores to start with and it’s almost as though the rules are being determined sort of week-to-week at this point.”

The meeting is being held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with brief staff presentations and question and answer sessions at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
