The 11th Annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes needs teams to register. The fundraiser is a playful and fun way to address a very serious issue, domestic abuse.
Teams of men will trade in their regular shoes and put on red heels and take a stroll through Festival Place Mall on April 27th to bring awareness and help raise money for Optimism Place Women’s Shelter and Support Services.
But Fern Sharp, the shelter’s Awareness and Resource Coordinator, says they need teams to register now even though the event is over a month away, “People need to register, whether you are an individual or a team. If you are a team, you don’t need to know all your team members now. You can sign up as a team and then your members can sign up to your page and use that to fundraise. You can use it on all your social media sites.”
Sharp says not only does it help kick start fundraising but it also helps her know how many shoes she needs to have ready on event day.
She says to come early to get the right size of shoes and to register. The event starts at 11:30 am with the walk at 1:00 pm.
