National Day of Mourning to be marked in Stratford this weekend

A day to honour and recognize those who have been seriously injured and killed in the workplace.

That’s what’s taking place on the National Day of Mourning which takes place this Sunday in over 100 countries across the globe, including here in Stratford.

A ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1 o’clock on Sunday afternoon in Upper Queen’s Park where there will be comments from six different speakers.

Ann Cook, President of the Stratford and District Labour Council who put on the event, says it’s about putting safety first.

“We want people to be remembered for if they did lose their life or be injured but we also want you to be aware of the safety in the workplace and knowing your rights and knowing your safety.”

There will also be flowers placed on the workplace monument in Upper Queen’s Park to mark the day.
