Police warning you about scam that continues to target victims

You’re being warned about a scam that continues to target victims.

Stratford Police say they received a complaint on Wednesday from a woman who said she had been contacted by someone who identified himself as a childhood friend.

The person said they had just won a prize through Publisher’s Clearing House and they convinced the woman to contact the company to try and win money herself.

Police say when the woman called the number she was given she was instructed that she would have to pay upfront fees, using Google Play cards, in order to claim her prize.

She followed through with the instructions and police say she lost an undisclosed amount of money through the fraud.

Police are reminding you that no legitimate company will request payment in order for you to claim a prize, nor will any company asked to be paid with Google Play cards.
