Just what charges will be laid remains to be seen after a lockdown at a Stratford school resulted in a replica handgun seized and two males arrested.

Stratford Police Constable Darren Fischer says police got information shortly after noon on Thursday that a student was believed to be in possession of a handgun at Stratford Secondary and Elementary Schools, formerly Stratford Northwestern Secondary School.

He says police determined who the student was and he was located in the school which was placed under lockdown, a replica handgun was seized, and a 17-year-old male from Stratford along with another 14-year-old male, who Fischer says obstructed police, was arrested and brought to police headquarters.

Fischer says the lockdown was lifted around 1:30 p.m. and the system was carried out efficiently by all in the school.

“At this time in the investigation, we don’t believe that there were any threats directed at anyone at the school or the school itself.”

The Stratford Police Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate what happened and those impacted at the school are being offered counselling.

Stratford Police have released a photo of the replica handgun that was seized in the investigation. (Photo supplied by Stratford Police).
