Designated Woodstock Police Officers now equipped with riffles

Some front line Woodstock Police officers will now be equipped with riffles.

The force says they recently purchased the C8 patrol carbine riffles from a disbanding police service and they will be used during general patrol duties.

They add that they were purchased to keep the initiative as cost-effective as possible and Woodstock Police Service Inspector Marci Shelton says in a press release that “many services across the province carry similar weapons” and the forces “containment team members have been carrying the carbine for years.”

Eight officers were chosen to carry the weapons and they went through an extensive training program to be prepared.

Shelton adds “With better accuracy, these weapons are a safer alternative in situations involving active shooters and barricaded subjects.”
