Huron County resident faces impaired and drug charges

A 34-year-old Huron County resident faces impaired and drug charges after a traffic stop in Stratford.

Just before 9:30 Saturday night, Stratford Police say an officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Downie Street.

Upon interaction with the driver, police say the officer observed signs of impairment.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to Stratford Police Headquarters where SPS says breath samples were provided that showed that the driver had over the legal limit of alcohol in his system to be operating a vehicle.

The driver was subsequently charged with Operation While Impaired-Alcohol and Operation while Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration.

During the arrest, police say the driver was also found to be in possession of nearly 20 grams of cannabis that was readily available.

Further charges under the Cannabis Control Act for Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, as well as speeding under the Highway Traffic Act were also issued.

The driver is due in court in Stratford on October 5th.
