‘Grandparent Scam’ surfaces again in Huron County

The ‘Grandparent Scam’ has resurfaced again in Huron County.

The Huron County OPP says the victim was an educated woman in her fifties and she was duped out of $1000.

It was a familiar script;

She received a call from a man pretending to be her nephew claiming he was in a drunk tank out in New Brunswick and needed to be bailed out.

A second man came on the phone pretending to be his lawyer with payment instructions.

The victim’s nephew was actually safe and sound out in Alberta.

Police are now investigating.

They encourage you to investigate any claims made over the phone, never give out personal information during a call you didn’t initiate and if you do get scammed, contact police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre immediately.
