Police: Man charged after driving while impaired

A 29-year-old man has been charged after police say he was driving while impaired by a drug.

Just before 8 o’clock in the evening on October 9th, Perth County OPP says they received a report of a possible impaired driver, travelling northbound on Perth Road 164, north of Atwood.

Police say witnesses observed the vehicle entering the oncoming lane, and later it almost collided with a parked car.

Police located the vehicle just south of Listowel, and conducted a traffic stop.

While speaking with the driver, they say he was displaying signs of being impaired by a drug and officers located fentanyl and drug paraphernalia in plain view.

The driver was placed under arrest for impaired operation and was transported to a local OPP detachment for further examination where he was deemed to be impaired by a drug.

He has been charged with Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid.

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute and the accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date.
