The number of patients in Huron Perth Hospitals are trending in the wrong direction.
The President and Chief Executive Officer for the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance Andrew Williams says all of the hospitals in our area are very full with a large number of patients coming from the Greater Toronto Area.
That’s because Toronto area hospitals are overflowing with patients suffering with COVID-19.
Right now, there are two COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit at Stratford General Hospital from the GTA, but other transferred patients have different illnesses not related to the virus.
Williams says our hospitals are constantly looking at how to accommodate additional patients.
He says it’s a very fluid situation.
“There’s a significant pressure right now from the GTA needing beds because of the spike in COVID admissions so we are seeing every day patients transferred out of the GTA coming west to this area.”
The number of COVID-19 infections are going up in Huron Perth, especially among younger people, but Williams says that has not yet resulted in the need for hospital beds for local people.
