Huron Perth Public Health will be holding Hepatitis A vaccination clinics next week.
A Hepatitis A outbreak was declared by the Public Health Agency of Canada on July 31st with exposure to frozen mangoes identified as the likely source of the outbreak.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on July 30th for various frozen mangoes.
There have been two confirmed cases of the virus in Quebec, and one in Nova Scotia and while no cases have been reported in Ontario to date, the recalled mangoes were distributed and sold here.
HPPH Hepatitis A vaccination clinics are taking place on Monday and Tuesday for those who consumed any of the recalled products in the last 14 days.
The recalled products are:
- Nature’s Touch Mangoes (frozen) – two kilograms, with a best before date of November 9, 2022;
- Compliments Mango Mania (frozen) – 600 grams, with best before dates of November 10, 2022 and December 18, 2022;
- Irresistibles Mango Chunks (frozen) – 600 grams, with a best before date of November 10, 2022; and,
- President’s Choice Mango Chunks (frozen) – 600 grams, with best before dates of November 6, 2022 and November 10, 2022.
“I strongly recommend that anyone six months of age and older who has eaten the recalled products in the past 14 days receive the Hepatitis A vaccine, says Dr. Miriam Klassen, Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth Public Health. “Vaccination can prevent the onset of symptoms if given within 14 days of exposure.”
