Mathieson says he continues to advocate for Go Transit service in Stratford

Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson says he continues to advocate for the province to bring Go Transit service to the city.

Mathieson says he had a meeting with Ontario Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney this week as part of the virtual Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference this week where he was able to ask questions about the rail service and explain why our area would benefit from it.

Go Trains have been spotted in the Stratford area over the last several weeks with Metrolinx, who owns the service, saying they are exploring a range of options to improve the speed and frequency of passenger rail service.

Mathieson says bringing the service here would be a game changer.

“We suffer with a lack of public transit options as it relates to rail, not only from the province  with Go Transit but from the federal government level with Via Rail.”

Mathieson says the province has asked to have a follow up meeting on the service in September or October.
