Home ownership, climate change, the tourism sector and access to high speed internet.
Those were just some of the topics brought up Tuesday night during the Federal Candidate Debate hosted by the Stratford and District Chamber of Commerce at the Arden Park Hotel.
The event was also live streamed on YouTube and it saw candidates talk about themselves and their policies as well as take questions from those in attendance.
Liberal candidate Brendan Knight says his party has the right policies to ensure an even playing field for buying a home.
“With the Home Buyers’ Bill of Rights and no more blind bidding you have an idea of what you can afford and what is listed and not find out you were outbid by an astronomical amount.”
People’s Party of Canada candidate Wayne Baker countered that we need to start thinking outside of the box to solve the housing issue.
“I know for a lot of years mobile homes and mobile home parks were a reality in our province and the powers that be have decided that’s not an appropriate form of housing anymore.”
Meanwhile, Conservative candidate John Nater says party leader Erin O’Toole has the right policies to lead the country.
“He addressed so many of the issues that we face here in Perth-Wellington, the small business concerns, the need for rural broadband in every single household across Perth-Wellington and across Canada, the importance of acknowledging that we are in a housing crisis.”
However, NDP candidate Kevin Kruchkywich says it’s time for a change in leadership in Ottawa.
“I’m tired, as I’m sure a lot of you are, I’m tired of promises not kept, I’m tired of the work not being done, I’m tired of seeing the very real Canadian value of helping out your neighbor treated as a quant notion that couldn’t possible be affordable.”
Election day is September 20th.
