This is fire prevention week

You’re being reminded to pay attention to the sounds of fire safety.

This is fire prevention week and this year’s theme is shining the spotlight on sounds including sirens coming from fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.

Other sounds include the chirps smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors make when their batteries are running low and they need to be changed.

Fire Prevention Officer James Marshall says some teachers have been noticing sounds coming from devices in students homes during virtual learning.

“That can happen with a regular or combination alarm where it’s battery and plug in and that’s just telling you change your battery, check the date, and then plug it back in and if it keeps acting up then it might be time for you to change out that unit.”

Homeowners should have one of each of the alarms on every floor of their home.

Fire prevention week runs until Sunday.
