Former Stratford Mayor taking on new cybersecurity role

Former Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson is taking on a new challenge.

Toronto Metropolitan University has announced it has appointed Mathieson as Special Advisor, Cybersecurity and Municipal Engagement.

Mathieson will work closely with TMU’s Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst as it strengthens its support for Canadian municipalities and works to address their growing cybersecurity challenges.

Mathieson says he first reached out for help from TMU when the City of Stratford was impacted by a cyberattack in 2019 and his relationship with them has blossomed since then.

He says there’s a real need in the municipal sector for cybersecurity awareness and adds it’s not a question of if municipalities will be breached, but when and how.

Mathieson says it’s incumbent on all of us to get as much information into the domain and use it to inform senior levels of government about dealing with online breaches.

He adds he will continue to live in Stratford and go to Toronto for meetings and other engagements as required.
