Kinsmen Club of Stratford no longer holding parades in the city

The Kinsmen Club of Stratford says it’s moving on from holding parades in the city.

In a letter to city council and residents, the club says it’s disappointed that the Canada Day parade isn’t allowed to travel along its old route that took it through the downtown core.

The club says a report from city staff on why the downtown roads, Ontario, Erie, and Huron Streets, can’t be used left many unanswered questions and never gave a detailed reason for excluding them.

Earlier this year, the club says it was also told that the Canada Day and Santa Claus parades will be co-hosted by other community organizations.

The letter finishes by thanking residents for their support during the 30 years the club held the parades and by wishing the new organizers much success.
