Boreal’s “Songs of Renewal” Concert at Avondale United Church

On May 11, 2024, Avondale United Church is honored to welcome Katherine Wheatly, Tannis Slimmon, and Angie Nussey, the award winning singer-songwriters who collectively form the trio Boreal, to their venue.  Boreal was established in 2006, by Wheatly, Silmmon, and Jude Vadala,  and after they spent some time together, creatively brainstorming ways to breathe life and excitement into the Winter Season, their wonderfully winter-filled show was born; since its conception, Boreal has toured all across Ontario, and turned their stage-savvy musical talents into a full-fledged recorded album entitled, “Winter’s Welcome” (2014). In 2019, when Vadala came to the decision that it was time to retire, she lovingly left the trio, inviting singer-songwriter and producer, Angie Nussey to take her place.     

Previously a winters-only touring trio, in 2020 and 2021 when their only option was to perform outdoors, Boreal realized their love for springtime staples such as: flowers, butterflies, falling in love, and bicycle rides. 

Prior springtime performances of Boreal’s include: The Toronto Botanical Gardens, and Hillside Homeside in Guelph, respectively. With their “Songs of Renewal” tour, Boreal is excited to take you on a journey of “friendship, laughter, and connection” (borrowed from their bio),  while celebrating hope, and new beginnings. 

Avondale United Church marks just one of the thirteen venues that consist of Boreal’s “Songs of Renewal” Tour. 

“Stratford just breathes with art, theater, and culture. We’re very excited to be part of it…if only for a night!” remarked Boreal member, Angie Nussey, when asked how she felt about the May 11 evening concert at Avondale United Church, Stratford.
