Police will include outsiders in review of unfounded sexual assault cases

More details of the Stratford Police review of its unfounded sexual assault cases have been revealed. They came out at a police services board meeting yesterday.

A report in the Beacon Herald says Chief Mike Bellai confirmed that the review will be done in phases. It’ll also be reviewed by an outside police agency and local women’s groups and advocates before being finalized.

A recent report by the Globe and Mail showed that between 2010 and 2014 about 48 per cent of sexual assault cases in Stratford were deemed to be unfounded. The review will re-examine all unfounded cases between 2010 and 2016.
