Imagine winning $2.9 million and a brand-new Dodge Ram, only to discover it’s all part of an elaborate scam.
Throughout the week of July 8-12, the Stratford Police Service received multiple reports regarding a suspected Princess Margaret Hospital Lottery Scam.
According to the reports, victims were contacted by a male caller claiming to represent the Princess Margaret Hospital Lottery.
The caller informed the victims that they had won $2.9 million and a Dodge Ram pick-up truck. He then instructed them to have a pre-paid Visa card ready for when he would visit their residence to deliver the prize.
Fortunately, none of the victims disclosed any further personal information or provided the pre-paid Visa card to the caller.
It is believed that the scammer obtained the victims’ names and addresses from the phone book.
Stratford police commended the victims for recognizing the scam and contacting authorities.
Community members who have received similar calls and experienced a financial loss are urged to contact Stratford police.
