UPDATED: HPHA hit by global disruption, ‘patient care continues uninterrupted’

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) is experiencing a global network outage that has disrupted access to electronic records and some digital services.

This outage has also disrupted flights, other hospitals, and border crossings in Canada.

The issue is apparently caused by a faulty CrowdStrike update for Windows computers. Microsoft is working on a fix, and it has been confirmed that the outage is not a cyberattack.

Patient care continues uninterrupted as healthcare professionals follow established protocols, according to the HPHA.

Contingency plans are ensuring smooth operations and patient care, the alliance said.

Lynanne Mason, VP of Partnerships, Transformation & Chief Nursing Executive, says their team is working diligently to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

“Patient care remains our primary focus,” she says. “We have a well-built process for downtime instances to ensure minimal impact to patient care. So, all departments and programs are running normally.”

Patients will be contacted if there are any changes to their care.

Mike Beitz, Corporate Communications Specialist with the City of Stratford, said the global network outage did affect some of the city’s systems early Friday morning.

“Those issues were quickly resolved, and we are not aware of any impact to the services we provide the community as a result of the network issue.”
