World in a Weekend: a feast for fans of puppetry

Stratford Summer Music is captivating audiences with a unique partnership.

An array of puppet shows and interactive workshops will showcase the magic of this timeless art form through its SpringWorks Festival, during World in A Weekend, held on the long weekend in August.

Eileen Smith, Artistic Producer at SpringWorks Festival, said one of the puppet projects features an immigration-themed puppet, with Sofia.

“The piece Migraciones (migrations) and they’re coming from Mexico via Minneapolis, and it’s the story of crossing and why would people, as refugees or immigrants leave their homes forever,” she said.

Smith says that puppet shows for all ages bring stories to life, while interactive workshops that will allow guests to create their own puppets, learning from skilled experts.

This renewed focus on puppetry not only showcases artistic creativity but also fosters a deeper understanding of important societal issues.
