It’s the 25th anniversary for the Brian Sippel Memorial Co-Ed Slo-Pitch Tournament

It’s been a big part of the Labour Day weekend now for two-and-a-half decades.

The annual Brian Sippel Memorial Co-ed Slo-Pitch Tournament starts Friday at Packham Road Diamonds in Stratford.

A record 42 teams are signed up for the tournament held in memory of Brian Sippel, who died of liver cancer.

Brian’s nephew, Randy Sippel, and his wife Melissa run the tournament.

Randy says a big mix of family and friends have kept his memory alive, and managed to raise an amazing amount of money for Canadian Cancer Society.

“If we meet our $35,000 target we will be comfortably over $400,000 in the 25 years.”

The co-ed format helps recruit and this weekend teams are coming from as far away as Sudbury.

Organizers are raffling off two tickets for a flight to anywhere in the world. There are also two BBQs up for grabs in a silent auction and a toonie toss for a bat.

Games run until Sunday evening.
