A 51-year-old Stratford man faces numerous criminal charges, including aggravated sexual assault, after police released more information Monday about an act of intimate partner violence last week.
Randal Ackersviller was arrested on Thursday (Dec. 5) after assaulting a woman, who escaped on foot, and then barricaded himself inside a home after the victim escaped.
The woman was helped by a passerby at about 5:30 a.m. while walking down Mornington Street.
She was taken to hospital with injuries.
Ackersviller was located within the residence where he had barricaded himself inside. Police successfully negotiated with Ackersviller and he was placed under arrest shortly before 11 a.m. that morning.
Charges include aggravated assault, assault cause bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, utter threats, forcible confinement, intimidation, five counts of firearms offences and five counts of breaching conditions of release.
Ackersviller is in custody with a forthcoming bail hearing.
Stratford police recognized the actions of the bystander who stopped to provide aid to the victim and commend them for providing assistance.
