United Way Perth-Huron’s annual fundraising campaign is nearing the halfway point and has already reached more than $1,165,000.
Ryan Erb, executive director for United Way Perth-Huron expressed amazement at the rate at which the fundraising campaign is going.
“We’re doing great actually. We really thankful for the generosity of the community as always. It never ceases to amaze me how much people really step up to help the United Way each and every year,” said Erb.
He stated they are a “little bit ahead of last year”, in terms of where they are financially, but alludes to the fact that it is a “marathon” and that there is a “long way till the end” of the campaign on March 31, 2025.
United Way also had a successful Tim Hortons Holiday Smile Cookie fundraising campaign, which amassed a $12,499.45 donation for the non-profit.
Erb also looks ahead to Coldest Night of the Year, an annual fundraising walk in February.
“First, we remember people who are experiencing homelessness in our community right now on a cold day like this, and it’s a somber reminder of the challenges that people are facing,” expressed Erb.
He explains that to help people experiencing homelessness, you can donate to ensure programs like Shelterlink Youth Services and the Connection Centre have the funds they need to operate.
The date for Coldest Night of the Year is Feb 22, 2025.
He encourages people interested in fundraising to register a team as they have a “big goal” of raising $200,000 that day.
There will also be fundraising walks in St. Marys and Listowel.
Erb explains the importance of the work that United Way does in making a difference in the community.
“Boy, we’ve got lineups at just about every social service agency that we’re supporting and it is tough for a lot of people out there.”
United Way Perth-Huron supports local organizations that provide critical social services in the area, while also advocating for change.
