Stratford & District Chamber of Commerce is now certified as a living wage employer.
Ryan Erb, Executive Director of United Way Perth-Huron, said initiatives like the living wage ensure the region is a better place to live and work.
The Perth-Huron living wage is $23.05 per hour, and is calculated by the Ontario Living Wage Network to show how much a worker must earn per hour to make ends meet in their community.
Chamber GM Aaron Martin said it’s a great metric to demonstrate what workers need to live a comfortable life, which is valuable both in terms of recruiting and retaining employees.
Calculations gather expenses for three types of households: two adults supporting two small children, a single parent, and a single adult.
There are 39 certified employers paying a living wage in Perth and Huron.
